Anthony Johnson put himself in the national spotlight after his 42-point performance in the Big Sky Championship to propel the Grizzlies into the NCAA Tournament. Their reward...a date with the 3-seed New Mexico Lobos.
A video posted this week on the Montana website showed the Grizzlies celebrating their tourney bid. It also featured Johnson nonchalantly lobbing some bulletin board material New Mexico's way (2:08 mark).
"We're happy about being a 14 seed. I'm glad we don't have to play one of these huge, Big East teams. My heart was kind of pumping a little bit for that."
As you might imagine, New Mexico has taken some issue with the comparison.
"You have to pay attention to stuff like that, that's a slap in the face," [New Mexico guard Dairese Gary] said.
"So we're thinking about it. I'm sure he didn't mean anything about it, but at the same time, that's the kind of momentum to stay focused and go out and play hard."
New Mexico-Montana is one of the late games on Thursday (9:40 p.m. EST) so there's still plenty of time for both teams to stew and/or say something else they shouldn't.
