At 2:40 on Sunday, second-seeded West Virginia will try to follow Syracuse's example and salvage some respect for the Big East in this tournament. The Mountaineers tip off against the Missouri Tigers, a ten-seed coming off a solid win over seventh-seeded Clemson.
Our WVU and Mizzou blogs, The Smoking Musket and Rock M Nation, will have live game threads ready to go. Check 'em out.
The Smoking Musket is all kinds of confident about today's game.
Lately, opponents have experienced the WVU buzzsaw and left with little idea of what they tried to accomplish before the game. West Virginia's defense and rebounding are great equalizers -- which is saying something considering we're talking about a #2 seed and the #5 ranked team in the country -- extending possessions and keeping the ball in WVU's hands for the majority of the game. Put those talents on the floor with Missouri, who don't rebound and look to create frenetic chaos, and you have established a huge matchup disparity right off the bat.
Meanwhile, Rock M Nation has elected to get silly. You kind of have to see it to know what I mean. They make sure to preface the post with:
Dear Mountaineer Fan who has stumbled upon this post:
It has come to my attention that your fan base has gained a reputation for being, um, intense. You guys have been known to throw things on the field, hurl things in the direction of opposing teams and have apparently set around 1,100 street fires between 1997 and 2003.
So, with all of that said, I feel it necessary (for my own safety) to reiterate to you that EVERYTHING WRITTEN IN THIS IS A JOKE.
