The Browns hold the 7th pick in the upcoming NFL draft and haven't been shy about their plans to find a quarterback of the future in the draft.
It's highly unlikely Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford, considered the top quarterback in the draft, will be available when the Browns come to pick. Trading up to get him is also highly unlikely.
The next logical quarterback on the board is Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen but Holmgren doesn't sound high on him.
"I wish I liked him more," he said. "You know how you have a type of player that you like? It's not scientific. People like him a lot. He'll go high. But it would be hard for me [to take him]."
Though Jake Delhomme wasn't guaranteed the starting job, it appears that's the way the 2010 season is shaping up. Holmgren didn't indicate the Browns had any interest in using their second round pick on a quarterback and any one selected after that probably wouldn't be a candidate to start.
"Next year might be easier. We've got [three picks in the third round and four in the fifth round] going for us. But I'd have to have another second-round pick [to take a quarterback in the second round]."

Holmgren doesn’t know what he is talking about. Clausen is a lock to go to Cleveland.

What?
Are you saying that Cleveland will pick Clausen, even though their President of Football Operations isn’t high on him? Or, are you saying Holmgren is blowing smoke?

I wouldn't say Clausen is a lock for Cleveland or anywhere else specifically ...
… more likely Holmgren is playing the “misinformation game” that all GMs play … he might have Clausen tapped as his first choice, who knows, but I wouldn’t say ANONE is a “lock” for any given team … then too, the Browns (like many bottom dwellers) have so many holes to fill there aren’t many choices that WOULD be bad for them
