Based on a complex (and unknown) formula involving money and playing time, the NFL awards extra draft picks to teams that lose free agents the previous year. The picks range from the third to seventh round and this season the Patriots and Bengals are the big winner.
The Bengals received and extra third and fourth round draft picks, according to SB Nation's Cincy Jungle.
The belief is that the third round compensation is based on Stacy Andrews leaving for the greener Philadelphia Eagles -- are we talking uniform or Benjamins? Hum. Having started eight games in 2009, the Bengals are likely receiving the fourth round compensatory pick for Ryan Fitzpatrick. Both picks will come at the end of the respective round.
The Patriots meanwhile hauled in the most with four total compensatory picks. Three come in the sixth round and one comes in the seventh, according to SB Nation's Pats Pulpit.
