Washington coach Flip Saunders is not happy with Andray Blatche and is not afraid to tell everyone about it. Saunders, breaking from the code that a coach should never publicly criticize a player, called out Blatche for his poor attitude following the Wizards' overtime loss to Charlotte Tuesday.
"In my fifteen years [of coaching], I've never seen anything like it," Saunders said. "I'm more disappointed in him that I've ever been with a player in my coaching career."
Ouch. But Saunders did not stop there. In a post-game press conference, he continued his rant, calling Blatche's actions "uncalled for."
Saunders said Blatche told him he didn't want to play any more after Saunders had criticised the fourth-year forward from Syracuse for failing to get back on defense.
Obviously, this did not sit well with Saunders who made sure the Wizards' leading scorer and rebounder sat for the rest of the game.
"When a coach wants to teach you something, and you think you're above that because you've played, what, 16 games?""Right now, [with] those teammates, he's lost his credibility, that ability to be in the trenches. What's going to happen when things go bad? You just can't do those things," Saunders said.
"If you don't want to be coached, you're in the wrong spot," he added.
This on a night when the Wizards distributed flyers promoting Blatche for the league's Most Improved Player.
Right now, I'm thinking he won't be receiving Saunders' vote.
