The International Bowl Is Dead. Long Live Every Other Sixth-Tier Postseason Game.

The International Bowl has been "retired," where "retired" implies "left in a ditch for dead and disavowed." Think you're gonna miss it? You're, um, completely alone on that:

Of the four games, the biggest crowd was in 2009, when the University at Buffalo participated, helping result in an attendance of 40,184.

Otherwise, the International Bowl, the only bowl game outside the U.S., has served as little more than a point of curiosity for fans.

Curiosity, mild derision, whatever you want to call it, the burning question remains: But where will lower-echelon teams be forced to spend their New Year's holidays practicing and pining for the fun and sun of the Meineke Car Care Bowl? TRICK QUESTION; there won't be a Big East anymore! Sleep tight!

I have said this before

and I’ll say it one more time. The reports of the Big East’s demise were greatly exaggerated in 2004, and it is still the case today.

If you can't tell that I wasn't actually predicting the demise of the Big East in the next nine months,

I beseech you to go bother somebody else’s blog.

Tranquilo, mi amiga

I happen to know you have a soft spot in your heart for my beloved Mountaineers.

I do, however, feel obligated to defend the Big East from even small slights, as it is hard enough to land good bowl games when most of the country perceives you as some bastard step-child who’s even lower than the ACC.

Carry on, then. [slaps musket]
