2010 NFL Mock Draft, Pick 6: Seahawks Select Taylor Mays, S USC

The sixth pick is in and SB Nation's Seahawks community, Field Gulls, has selected...

USC S Taylor Mays

From Field Gulls:

Seattle is seemingly out of the quarterback sweepstakes after investing in Charlie Whitehurst. The three line talents worthy of this pick are gone. That leaves Eric Berry. Or one might assume. I would select Eric Berry, but I think Pete Carroll would select Taylor Mays.

From Mocking The Draft:

This pick is crazy. It would illustrate a clear case of over-drafting a player. But it totally makes sense. Of all the defensive stars Carroll had at USC, he always seemed to speak the highest of Mays.

From Conquest Chronicles' Mays player profile:

Punishing tackler. Six-foot, three-inches, 220 pounds. Wide receiver speed. Tremendous physique.

That is what scouts said about Taylor Mays before coming to USC and that is what Taylor Mays brought to USC.

Whatever team will draft the 6-3 safety, Mays will not disappoint. He was special in high school and in college. The "freak" will deliver at the pro-level.

I gotta agree with MTD on this one. It's not only that this is a major reach but that Mays will almost certainly be available with the Seahawks second first round pick. So why not grab someone else and wait?

this is the craziest thing i’ve ever heard? Pete Carrol will only pass up Berry for Mays if he has mashed potatoes for brains? Mays has a good upside but hes not even top 2 safety in the draft? I feel like you need to be in the conversation for the best at your position to be picked in the top
