Andy Reid announced on Wednesday that offers are being entertained for each of the three Eagles quarterbacks. Among those said to be interested in acquiring Donovan McNabb are Buffalo, Arizona and, most concertedly (according to Jason LaConfora), Oakland. The Rams, 49ers and Panthers have also been floated as possible trade partners.
Though if McNabb truly had his druthers, he'd be staying put in Philadelphia. However, the 33-year-old quarterback is entering the final year of his contract and would like to sign a long-term contract, something the Eagles may not be willing to oblige him, instead opting to take the team in a new direction after 11 seasons. So, after years of rumored departures, if this is finally the time that McNabb is traded from Philly, sources have told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he would prefer to go to the Vikings.
McNabb's chief concern is that he wants to play for a contending team, and the Vikings are certainly that. Of course, the immediate issue being that Minnesota has a quarterback in place. That is, they do if Brett Favre decides to stave off retirement for yet another year. With the Vikings not imposing a hard-and-fast deadline on Favre to make his decision, this report could put them at a crossroad. Now that a possible (and maybe preferable) backup option exists to replace him, it'll be interesting to see whether the team exerts more pressure on Brett to make his decision so that Minnesota doesn't lose out on McNabb as well.

True. But Minnesota HAS to throw their name into the mix. Think about it from purely a finanacial perspective. The more people that want McNabb, increases his value. It’s simple supply and demand. Thus, even though Minnesota probably has no REAL interest in acquiring McNabb, it benefits both McNAbb AND the Vikings to have their respective names mentioned together.
If McNAbb does go to another team, they will have to outbid all others. Throwing Minnesota’s name into it just adds to the asking price, thus reducing that teams future ability to acquire other players.
Besides, they ARE going to wait on Favre. Why pay McNabb to MAYBE play. The already have qb’s waiting in the wings. It would just be ill advised.

Makes sense—-go from 1 franchise that never has or will win a super bowl to another

I agree with McNabb’s choice. It’s the likeliest place where he has a shot in his waning career at something big, and Childress is (I think) sending gentle signals that he doesn’t want his team’s preparation stalled annually, even if it’s all part of a tacit agreement. Brett’s family time is important, but so is that of other players.

I prefer McNabb to Favre. As well, McNabb has another 3 or 4 years left in his legs. Vikes need to make the move.

Who wouldn’t want a guy who works out with Abe Lincoln???
by ChiMadam on Mar 26, 2010 1:54 PM EDT reply actions
Haha, Abe would be a football stud. I’m a McNabb apologists, but realistically speaking, it doesn’t make sense to trade him now. The Iggles O-line is a huge question mark – will Stacy Andrews be any good? Will J. Jackson come back healthy? Are our guards good enough?
So, our O-line is questionable and we’re looking to move the mobile QB? I’m confused. If Kolb’s the starter and our line is brutal/injured, his going to get slaughtered. I blame the defense for last year’s failures more than I blame McNabb and the offense. He deserves another year.

Write the Vikings off for 2010…They have no quarterbacks, and their two main candidates always slump at the end of the season…

It would definetly be different to se Mcnabb in another uni other then the Eagles but could be promissing if he dose sign with Minnesota but with the whole will he or won’t he of Brett Farve it is definetly up in the air.

Kind of amazing that a QB with the skill set and leadership of McNabb doesn’t have more teams drooling over the prospects of what he could add to their team. I would love for the Broncos to send Orton and a 2nd rounder for Donovan. Orton’s only on a one year deal so that wouldn’t hurt Philly. He’d be the perfect backup to Kolb. Plus they would get the 2nd rounder they what, albeit a lower one(not by much). The Broncos would have McNabb as the starter with Quinn learning under an all-star for the future. If the Broncos kept Marshall in that scenario, they immediatly become contenders in the AFC. Makes too much sense.

Favre is still the best QB in the world – find another city.
by Sayitaintsosa23 on Mar 27, 2010 1:43 PM EDT reply actions
Hey tykendo, there is a reason teams are NOT jumping to trade for McNabb, HE IS NOT AS GOOD AS PEOPLE THNK HE IS. Lets see skill set, he consistantly either under throws or over throws recievers, if it wasnt for B Westbrook catchig passes in the flat then running for 60+ yards McNabbs stats would STINK. You talk about LEADERSHIP, name 1, One big game that McNabb came up big, I’ll give you a hint ,the answer is 0.So if yyou want to use any influence you have in the Broncos front office we will give you McNabb and for Orton and a 2nd rounder. You make that happen, and then you will see that #5 is a good QB at best. I know a lot of people will say "Look at all the division titles , yeah at a time when the NFC east STUNK, now that the Giants and Da**as are good you see just how "good" #5 is
