2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 1, Pick 10

The 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft is underway, with each SB Nation blogger making selections for their respective teams. The SB Nation Jacksonville Jaguars blog Big Cat Country checks in to make the 10th overall selection in this year's mock. Take it away, sirs!

With the 10th overall pick in the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars have selected Joe Haden, CB, Florida.

Big Cat Country says: The Jaguars are stuck between a rock and a hard place at the No. 10 spot. They can hope a player takes a draft day slide, like Eugene Monroe did last year. However, the chances of Eric Berry or Jimmy Clausen being there at  No. 10 are fairly slim.

Although Joe Haden is the best available player at this point, it is always better to match value and need. Rashean Mathis still has enough left in the tank, and Derek Cox played well enough last year. Earl Thomas would make more sense from a need standpoint, but what is he worth the No. 10 pick overall?

Derrick Morgan's unimpressive pro day and Jason Pierre-Paul's extreme boom-bust potential, coupled with Aaron Kampman's signing, make taking a DE less of an attractive option.

Honestly, at this point, the Jaguars will be looking to trade down and get more picks. With only six picks in a draft this loaded, it's a necessity. With two 3-4 teams picking after them, perhaps a team with its eye on Tennessee DT Dan Williams will want to jump the Broncos or Dolphins. Another possibility is Clemson RB C.J. Spiller.

Mocking Dan reacts: This was a surprising pick. So surprising that when I wrote it up I initially had Derrick Morgan written down as the pick. Whoops!

Even with Kampman, the pass rush needs more talent. That's how inept Jacksonville's current group of pass rushers have been. Jacksonville is a team with several pressing needs. Cornerback is certainly not one of them. I understand why a team like Jacksonville would be gun shy about Thomas after Reggie Nelson has regressed. But Thomas has the skills to be as good as Eric Berry.

Haden is a good value pick. He just might not be the right one.

Mocking the Draft's Top 5 remaining prospects: 1 - C.J. Spiller/RB/Clemson, 2 - Dez Bryant/WR/Oklahoma State, 3 - Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech, 4 - Earl Thomas/S/Texas. 5 -Everson Griffen, DE, USC

Sound off, SB Nation! What say you of the Haden-to-Jacksonville pick? Please be sure to check out Big Cat Country for all of your Jaguars needs.
