The 16th pick is in and SB Nation's Titans community, Music City Miracles, has selected....
Boise State CB Kyle Wilson
Jeff Fisher said at the end of 2009 that this off-season would be all about upgrading the defense. The two biggest holes remaining are defensive end and cornerback. Kyle Wilson is the best available corner at this point and may be the best available defensive player.
But Wilson would give the Titans a man-cover cornerback to team with Cortland Finnegan. That would allow the team's safeties to move around the field more and open up bigger gaps for the defensive line. The Titans defense showed that when the line plays well, the entire defense does. But the secret to that is sound cornerback play, which the team would have with Wilson on board. It would also have one of the best special teams players in this year's draft.
From One Bronco Nation Under God's Wilson player profile:
Scouts across the NFL love Kyle Wilson's hips. They are fluid and smooth and (can someone just get these guys a room already?). Wilson's hips are a big reason why he excels in coverage. He can move with a receiver and change directions at a moment's notice, and he has the closing speed to break on a ball. His aggressiveness can get him in trouble, but it can also pay off big time with INTs, PBUs, and the occasional pick-six. Wilson can read routes exceptionally well, and he has the ball skills to make a QB think twice before throwing his direction. He can take away a receiver fairly easily.
I agree with MTD that this might be a bit early but at the same time, Wilson fits a Jeff Fisher team. He should be able to help in run support and even return some kicks. Since the Pacman Jones experiment failed a few years back, Wilson should help the Titans. Maybe a bit early, but still a good player.
