UFC Confirms Kimbo Slice v. Matt Mitrione For UFC 113

Despite sources informing me of an impending move of Kimbo Slice vs. Matt Mitrione from UFC 113 to a new show which would counter the upcoming Strikeforce on CBS show it appears that the fight will remain on UFC 113. From f4wonline:

UFC just sent a release confirming Kimbo Slice vs. Matt Mitrione for 5/8 in Montreal. The match had been on the schedule for that night for some time. There had been serious talk of making a change in plans and having Slice, the most proven television drawing card in the sport, headline on 4/17 head-to-head with the Strikeforce show on CBS.

There are very limited options for a UFC show on 4/17 now. Rumors continue to swirl of Wanderlei Silva vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama being put on the card but I’ve not heard any additional movement on this.

It almost feels like the UFC won’t counter the event with a live show and are simply using this to make Strikeforce hesitate on announcing a date.

Rumor: Kimbo Slice v. Matt Mitrione Moving To April 17 Spike TV Card

With the announcement of the UFC holding an event on April 17 and now news that the rumored Mike Swick vs. Matt Serra fight is off due to Mike Swick's injury there has been much speculation on what fights will run on the event.

Despite rumors from Carmichael Dave on The Underground that James Toney would make his MMA debut against Kimbo Slice on the event, I have heard from a solid source that the most likely option right now is to move the scheduled Kimbo Slice / Matt Mitrione fight from UFC 113 up a few weeks to the Spike TV card.

Remember, the last time that Kimbo fought on Spike he pulled in over 5 million viewers.  It would be a smart move by the UFC to move an attraction type fight to that card and not have to fire a huge bomb like Toney/Kimbo.  It should eat into the Strikeforce rating plenty even without any other huge fights on the card, but there is still a possibility of Kimbo/Mitrione being a co-main event with a slightly more "meaningful" fight on top of the card.

SB Nation will have more on these developments as information becomes available.
