On Friday, quarterback Jake Delhomme was officially released by the Panthers, who acted as though they were seeing their son off to college. Yes, the Carolina Panthers football club is a classy organization full of classy people who do classy things. In fact, rather than tell Delhomme's agent over the telephone that he was released, general manager Marty Hurney actually flew to Chicago to deliver the news in person.
“He said he just couldn’t do it over the phone,” [Delhomme's agent Rick] Smith said. “So what does he do? He flies to Chicago so he can tell me to my face. To me, that tells you about the bond between the player and the team, and the character of the organization.
Pure class, that Marty Hurney! Oh, hold on a sec. Dave Warner is pointing out something on Google Reader:
The GM of the Carolina Panthers flew to Chicago... one day before the Bears signed Julius Peppers. Weird.
50% class, that Marty Hurney!
