Atlanta Truck Race Open Thread: Harvick Wins

Our chat has returned for the second week – it was kinda awesome at Vegas last week, so we’ll try it again.

Below, feel free to comment on the Camping World Truck Series race today in Atlanta, or if you have any questions/topics you want to discuss about the Sprint Cup Series, we can do that too.

To paraphrase Robin Pemberton: Boys (and girls), have at it.

I'll start...

Will Austin Dillon make it through the race today in the No. 3 truck? Fast truck, but inexperienced. Thoughts?

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 1:57 PM EST reply actions

Gonna have to go with no. Fast truck, but his inexperience will hinder him, I think. He needs to get out there and get seat time and try to stay out of trouble.

And my tv has been commandeered by the lil one in favor of Noggin. Gotta keep them happy.

Jeff Glunk

You could compare the mid late 90s Jeff Gordon to todays Sidney Crosby except Gordon wasn’t hype

Jeff Gordon was young successful but his haters called him a whiner a cheater

Sidney Crosby 22 won the Stanley cup his haters call him a whiner and a diver

by bullsfan24 on Mar 6, 2010 1:57 PM EST reply actions

both called the face of there league or sport

by bullsfan24 on Mar 6, 2010 1:58 PM EST up reply actions

people called jeff gordon the kid and they call sidney crosby sid the kid

by bullsfan24 on Mar 6, 2010 2:03 PM EST up reply actions

Wait, so you say Crosby is more hype?

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:01 PM EST up reply actions

coming into nhl Crosby was hype when Gordon came into Nascar nobody cared or thought he would make it

by bullsfan24 on Mar 6, 2010 2:17 PM EST up reply actions

my bad sorry man

by bullsfan24 on Mar 6, 2010 2:18 PM EST up reply actions

It’s all good, I’m just giving you crap.

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:19 PM EST up reply actions

Dillon

Being the grson of Richard Childress has given him oppurtunities other drivers work longer to achieve so yes I think the inexperience shows…will be interesting to see how far he goes in the truck race

by del227 on Mar 6, 2010 2:02 PM EST reply actions

Yeah…it’ll be interesting for sure. But you know, the Trucks are a good place to learn and get experience. I give much more slack to Austin Dillon working his way up to Trucks and starting out than Danica never being in a stock car and then just going into Nationwide basically.

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:07 PM EST up reply actions

I agree with ya Jeff on the Danica thing..last race showed she should have done ARCA longer

by del227 on Mar 6, 2010 2:10 PM EST up reply actions

Danicamania

I agree with Jeff also. I hope Austin does well, as well as Jennifer Jo.

Truck Racing

Thanks for starting the chat thread again. Looking forward to some good truck racing – most of the time these guys give us better racing than Cup.

by Ceejaytravels on Mar 6, 2010 2:08 PM EST reply actions

Hey, what’s up? Yeah, I like the trucks. And honestly, I think the shorter races can make for some more entertaining races. 500 miles is BRUTAL sometimes!

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:13 PM EST up reply actions

Crafton

Hopefully Crafton can have a solid day and get himself his 2nd career win today…he is overdue again. He’s been super fast all weekend too!

by Kyle Jackson on Mar 6, 2010 2:10 PM EST reply actions

Yeah. Did you know Crafton is on Twitter? He doesn’t have too many followers though.

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:13 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah I follow him…he is a good dude…do you think any of the Harvick/Hornaday vs. Crafton will spill over to today since they all start up front?

by Kyle Jackson on Mar 6, 2010 2:16 PM EST up reply actions

I’d guess not…too early for all that. Of course, I could be wrong

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:17 PM EST up reply actions

Good start of the race…aggressive move by Crafton…probably pissed Busch and Hornaday off though

by Kyle Jackson on Mar 6, 2010 2:20 PM EST up reply actions

its been a while..

this is only second truck race of the year… im ready

by dalejrfangirl on Mar 6, 2010 2:13 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, weird schedule they have, huh?

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:17 PM EST up reply actions

AMS Truck race

Wish I was actually there today instead of going to the Cup race tomorrow. These guys always put on a great show. I’m rooting for Rowdy or Crafton today.

by Bobbleheaded on Mar 6, 2010 2:14 PM EST reply actions

I wonder how Steve Wallace will do. Does he have any fans?

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:18 PM EST up reply actions

I can say I am not a fan – something about his attitude and the way he drives bothers me!

by Ceejaytravels on Mar 6, 2010 2:19 PM EST up reply actions

I'm sure not a fan of his!

I only root for Mike & Chrissy! I can take or leave the rest.

by Bobbleheaded on Mar 6, 2010 2:22 PM EST up reply actions

Pulling for an array of people in the truck race. Busch, Crafton, Harvick, Dillon, SWallace, Almirola, Sauter, Malsam, Carmichael, Sweet Lofton McCumbee and Peters. And keeping an eye on good ol’ Geoff Bodine lol. Yes..i know thats alot. Sue me :D (p.s. im not worth alotta $ lol)
Hopefully the Chevys wont run away with todays race and it stays close. Truck being string out usually means Hornaday’s leading lmao. And we dont want that. Good luck and stay safe to all.

You’re pulling for like half the field! You can’t do that, can you? :) I think that’s cheating. Maybe you should say who you AREN’T pulling for.

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:18 PM EST up reply actions

LOL I always get accused of that! And never learn either haha. Im just suportive like that. So many kool nice guys out there who do some really awesome things at all levels.
And um….ooops! Well.. one person i wasnt pulling for was Hornaday… i was away when he wrecked and was actually talking about him wrecking at Daytona. BlameMe moment? lol.

Annnnnd

Kyle Busch is in the lead.

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:26 PM EST reply actions

*fist pump*

Go Rowdy go!

He does make this series even more exciting.

by Bobbleheaded on Mar 6, 2010 2:27 PM EST up reply actions

I agree. He and his truck team add to the series. The Trucks are better because he’s there, even if he gets pissy sometimes.

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:29 PM EST up reply actions

As a fan – I like it when he gets pissy. Shows his pasion.

by kwms on Mar 6, 2010 2:31 PM EST up reply actions

Yes he does – I like the way he is maturing and keeping it exciting.

by Ceejaytravels on Mar 6, 2010 2:30 PM EST up reply actions

I would say 100 percent of people would agree with you, but I’ve learned recently that at least one person will ALWAYS disagree!

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:28 PM EST up reply actions

that kinda racing sucks. too scary. ;-)

by Bobbleheaded on Mar 6, 2010 2:29 PM EST up reply actions

Not no more…Harvick is just cruising…he’ll be the class of the field today

by Kyle Jackson on Mar 6, 2010 2:28 PM EST reply actions

Yup

And the PR person for the No. 2 truck today is DeLana…true team effort!

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:29 PM EST up reply actions

Must be nice to have a wife that loves the sport as much as you do…DeLana is great for the sport

by Kyle Jackson on Mar 6, 2010 2:32 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, although when she wears a firesuit I don’t totally get that.

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:34 PM EST up reply actions

That always bugged me. Sure she’s part of the team or even the owner but no one else does it. It’s very… weird.

by Bobbleheaded on Mar 6, 2010 2:36 PM EST up reply actions

Maybe she is secretly Kevin’s back up driver in case anything ever happens or Kevin gets sick. She is already suited up and ready to go. That would be a sight to see.

by Kyle Jackson on Mar 6, 2010 2:41 PM EST up reply actions

We will see – too soon to tell – looks like Todd ’the Onion" may have something to say about it before we are done

by Ceejaytravels on Mar 6, 2010 2:31 PM EST up reply actions

Are you an Onion fan?

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:33 PM EST up reply actions

Absolutely – he called me sweetheart a couple of times – all it took! Everytime I have seen him in person he has had a smile on his face and is great to all those around him – one of the good ole boys!

by Ceejaytravels on Mar 6, 2010 2:42 PM EST up reply actions

Jeff... whatcha think?

Speed just advertised they will talk about the EGR drama tomorrow on raceday. What’s your take on it?

Mine? JPM is a crybaby.

by Bobbleheaded on Mar 6, 2010 2:30 PM EST reply actions

No drama

It’s all good, I think. JPM shrugs this stuff off very quickly and doesn’t let it bother him for long. Jamie is probably miffed, but they’ll move on.

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:32 PM EST up reply actions

Didn’t sound like he’d shrugged it off. The last comment from him I saw was “Oh Jamie texted me I’m sorry lalalala”. Though I do have to say, a texted apology to your teammate is very crappy.

by Bobbleheaded on Mar 6, 2010 2:34 PM EST up reply actions

That’s just how JPM talks. after the lalalala comment, he also said “It happens” and he was mad at the time but he’s cool now.

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:40 PM EST up reply actions

I think the two of them are over it – love the media when they have their facts straight – but they are beating a dead horse now – is it really that slow out there or are they just wanting to stir up dust when the floor is clean?

by Ceejaytravels on Mar 6, 2010 2:36 PM EST up reply actions

Well, it might get people to watch their show, so….

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:40 PM EST up reply actions

Chad McCumbee

Wow…he’s a start-and-park now I guess. It’s sad…he was close to taking over a Petty Cup car at one point. He was supposedly the future. Now he’s a start-and-park in Trucks.

Remember, he starred as Dale Jr. in that ESPN movie….

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:31 PM EST reply actions

Remember, he starred as Dale Jr. in that ESPN movie….

Wonder if one has to do with the other?!?

WOW!!!

That’s a shock!! Hornaday crashes….ouch!

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:32 PM EST reply actions

Blew a tire. Man…sucks for the defending champ!

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:33 PM EST up reply actions

That’s going to hurt his championship efforts this year…two races, two crashes…but then again if Hornaday wins 5 races in a row like he did last year he’ll be in good shape

by Kyle Jackson on Mar 6, 2010 2:35 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, it is still early in the year though. Plus, there aren’t THAT many great trucks, so he should be able to stay within range.

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:39 PM EST up reply actions

Kyle Busch

He stayed on pit road to fix damage and stuff well after all the other trucks had left. So he’ll start from the back.

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:35 PM EST reply actions

He’s already had two crashes and two crew chiefs in two races this year. Geez!

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 2:44 PM EST up reply actions

by Diana Jones on Mar 6, 2010 2:58 PM EST reply actions

Crash!

Todd Bodine and Matt Crafton got into it, and Crafton got some damage. Wonder if Hornaday is secretly happy to see Crafton (another title contender) get some damage while he’s out?

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 3:02 PM EST reply actions

I bet. Has to ease some of the disappointment of a bad day knowing that a title contender couldn’t capture on your misfortune.

Hey Jeff,
You should go with Carmichael and Harvick after the race and check out the Daytona Supercross race…that’s some pretty exciting stuff right there.

by Kyle Jackson on Mar 6, 2010 3:06 PM EST reply actions

Damn, that’d be cool as hell. Doubt there’s that much room for me on the plane though

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 3:07 PM EST up reply actions

Hesitant to say, but Austin Dillon might come out with a good finish if everyone keeps wrecking. Of course now I just jinxed him.

by jr88freak on Mar 6, 2010 3:21 PM EST reply actions

Haha, I’m marking that down! At least I won’t be the jinx this time.

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 3:25 PM EST up reply actions

Shoot!

I guess I was bad luck for Justin Lofton today. He said before the race he had a top-10 truck, hoping for a top-five. Lofton is the defending ARCA champ….had never met him before today. Nice guy though.

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 3:21 PM EST reply actions

Man that sucks for poor Justin Lofton! No where to go. Fighting for 6th and 7th with Shane Seig. Watching Justin all last year in the ARCA series was a blast. Really nice down to earth person. Hopefully its not TO bad and he can get back out.
ps…were u watching the race from Jeff?

Im going with Kyle Busch. But there’s others that can sneak it.

Hello..$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!

by Sky inLas Vegas on Mar 6, 2010 3:38 PM EST up reply actions

Tradition, and a big black eye for the sport if they can’t fill out their fields. Makes it look bad.

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 3:39 PM EST up reply actions

And the growing number of start and parks aren’t causing a black eye?

by jr88freak on Mar 6, 2010 3:43 PM EST up reply actions

Oh, they are. But NASCAR has a tough balance right now…if they are too hard on the start-and-parks, they have short fields. If they have short fields, the national perception is, “Wow, NASCAR is in a downhill slide…it’s falling apart.” So it’s tough.

I don’t have a huge problem with the start-and-park guys who are just trying to make it to the next week and get sponsorship.

But the guys who just do it for a profit? That makes a total JOKE out of the sport. Grrrrr…..

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 3:46 PM EST up reply actions

Green Flag pitstops

Trucks don’t normally make green flag stops…this is going to get very interesting. They are saying Maslam doesn’t have to pit too

by Kyle Jackson on Mar 6, 2010 3:43 PM EST reply actions

So much for that…caution

by Kyle Jackson on Mar 6, 2010 3:46 PM EST up reply actions

Always works like that…spoke too soon, huh?

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 3:48 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t know. Is it close? What is it, every time you shave you get points for your drivers?

by Jeff Gluck on Mar 6, 2010 3:46 PM EST up reply actions

Then Junior should shave. Whoever he’d turn it in for would certainly boost them to the lead!

Or Tony… But I’m not going any further with that thought.

Last I heard Carl/Clint team was leading with Denny/Kasey in 2nd. Don’t know if it’s close or not.

by jr88freak on Mar 6, 2010 3:51 PM EST up reply actions

Oops…David Starr screwed Kyle on that restart by not getting up to speed. Will that cost Kyle a shot at the win?
