During the Phoenix-Utah game on Thursday night, Suns forward Robin Lopez delivered a hard foul to Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko on a fast break that sent the Russian sailing into the camera crew.
It was ruled a Flagrant I at the time, and Carlos Boozer had his own opinion on the appropriate call to make* (audio is briefly but deliriously NSFW at the end):
Today, we found out that the NBA has agreed with Boozer (inasmuch as a league can "agree" with such an opinion):
The NBA has apparently decided to upgrade Robin Lopez' flagrant foul from a Grade I to a Grade II, according to Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor.
Kirilenko was shaken up but not hurt and he will play against the Clippers, but it was a nasty and unnecessary foul by Lopez. Kirilenko was in the air. He was not in any kind of position to protect himself as he fell. Coach Jerry Sloan called it the kind of foul that, in the old days of the NBA, used to cause a fight.
Lopez was not ejected or suspended, however.
*Decency guidelines prohibit us from discussing the underlying logic of Boozer's declaration.
