MMA Legend Jens Pulver Loses Quickly, Is Still Awesome Forever

The great career of former UFC champion Jens Pulver may finally be at its end; in tonight's WEC 47, he lost his fifth straight fight tonight, this one to Javier Vazquez, and Vazquez basically dominated the entire fight.

If that's it for Pulver's career--and it likely is, if his tearful post-fight speech was any indication--he has two things going for him. First, his career was sensational at its peak; he was UFC's first Light Heavyweight Champion and was the only person to beat B.J. Penn at 155 pounds.

And second, his walkout shirt tonight was phenomenal:

The irony of using such an old image to represent his career in such a youth-dominated sport wasn't lost on Pulver; indeed, during his speech, he compared the 8-bit graphics to his career: vintage. And for something to be vintage, it's got to be over first.

Jens is a class act, and although he'll be missed, he's left an idelible mark on the sport.

I don’t think Li’l Evil has anything else to prove. His career has been phenonenal, and his attitude and spirit brought to the sport that of a great ambassador.

If he retires now, no matter, he’s already a hero to those in and around MMA. Regardless of this recent unsuccessful string of fights, that will never change.
