Joe Nathan Leaves Spring Training Game With Elbow Tightness

Stay connected with SB Nation

Bad news from Fort Myers today for the Minnesota Twins. Well, it certainly isn't good news, anyway. During the Twins' 9-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox, Joe Nathan left the third inning with a potential problem in his elbow. From MLB.com:

"[There was] some tightness, achiness. We didn't want to push through anything," Nathan said of his elbow. "I think it's more being careful than anything right now. [We are] taking things slow because we still have a lot of time."

Nathan was making his first appearance since undergoing surgery in late October to remove two bone spurs and loose bodies from his right elbow. He will be re-evaluated Sunday.

"Until we get that evaluation, I don't want to come to any assumptions that I'm going to be fine or not," said Nathan.

That's the appropriate caution, of course; if this is nothing but typical soreness--or even a typical 15-day DL type of injury--then it'll theoretically have no bearing on the regular season.  Still, the fact that Nathan is coming off surgery in that same elbow means that this could potentially be a lingering issue.

Oh, and that sound you hear is Pat Neshek rocketing up fantasy baseball draft lists.
