Summit League Championship: Oakland's Dancing For Second Time In School History

Mar 9, 2010 - Sioux Falls, SD (Sports Network) - Oakland punched its NCAA Tournament ticket for the second time in school history, climbing on the back of Derick Nelson's 36 points to win the Summit League Tournament Championship with a 76-64 victory over IUPUI.

Nelson was a scorching 15-of-23 from the floor and grabbed nine rebounds for Oakland (26-8), which advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005. Larry Wright chipped in with 16 points for the Golden Grizzlies, who have won 11 straight heading into the 65-team field.

Alex Young led IUPUI (24-10) with 19 points, Robert Glenn donated 18 points and six rebounds and Leroy Nobles added 14 points in defeat. The Jaguars had no answer for Nelson and saw its six-game winning streak snapped in their chance for a conference title and a bid to the tournament.
