Driver rating not very accurate
There is no correlation in driver rating and actual points standing after the ninth position. Look at the data.

Driver rating is accurate
It’s the points that aren’t. There are several drivers who have had good finishes and are up in points, but they lack the consistancy to stay there. They got lucky. The driver ratings will hold true and the better, more consistant drivers will come to the top.

To me, it's about how you finish, not your running position, average speed, fast laps, etc.

Yeah, but sometimes the finish is the result of a mechanical failure or crash or bad circumstances. This tells you who is running the best.
