"Got screwed in the face 13 times yesterday! Yep, facial reconstruction surgery. Good times."
"My cheekbones were broken loose and had to be screwed down to keep them in place. Then a mesh made from titanium is laid down with some bone growth material over the top of it. That accelerates the whole healing process. Screws will be permanent. As is the titanium mesh they laid down."
- Nate Quarry via (ironically) Facebook
Quarry's style of defense is very much one of hoping his opponent breaks their hand on his face. Jorge Rivera was able to land clean over and over in their bout at UFC Fight Night 21. It didn't look like Quarry had a shred of defensive ability in that fight. I'm not sure if this is just a style problem for him or if it is age catching up. At 38 years old there is a lot of wear and tear on his body and maybe he just doesn't have it in him after a major back surgery to be a defensive specialist.
