Ron Gardenhire is usually praised as a gruff and old-school baseball manager, the kind of guy who loves calling for sacrifice bunts and finds traditional baseball pranks like lighting someone's shoes on fire hilarious. That's one way of looking at him. Another is to note that his full name, Ronald Clyde Gardenhire, is awesomely evocative of late eighteenth century England, and sounds like what a trusted old head servant might be named. The kind of man who is good to have around when you need a carriage fixed or have a governess that needs a husband. Hence, Lookout Landing's All-Jane Austen Team.
As you might expect, the All-Jane Austen Team is a little short of potent offensively, but they make up for it with a positively delightful pitching staff:
SP: Justin Brooks Verlander
SP: Chad Ryan Billingsley
SP: Robert Nicholas Blackburn
SP: Adam Parrish Wainwright
SP: Jeremy Allen BondermanRP: Jonathan Robert Papelbon
RP: Blake Edward Hawksworth
RP: Kyle William McClellan
RP: Joel Ryan Hanrahan
RP: Nathan Daniel Robertson
RP: Clayton C. Richard
RP: Hayden Andrew Penn
The roster is only the beginning. Team colors: white, off-white, and gray. Team name: Prince-Regents. Home stadium: Pemberley Park. Famous Fans: Hugh Grant, Christian Laettner. Greatest rivals: Yankees and Braves/Indians. Mandated style of coverage on official team website: epistolary.
