Bad news for Buffalo Sabres fans just as the playoffs are ready to begin.
Forward Jochen Hecht had surgery on his injured left pinkie and will be out indefinitely. Head coach Lindy Ruff mentioned that he will be out for weeks as Buffalo begins its first round series against the Boston Bruins on Thursday.
Hecht, who missed the final three games of the regular season with the injury, participated in practice the last three days. On Wednesday, the finger was examined and they determined that surgery was necessary. The German is one of Buffalo's better two-way forwards coming off of a 21-goal, 21-assist campaign with a plus-14 rating.
Rookie Tyler Ennis will replace Hecht on the top line.
