The 30th pick is in and SB Nation's Vikings community, Daily Norseman, has selected...
Rutgers CB Devin McCourty
McCourty is rising up the draft boards, and according to some is the second-best corner in this year's draft behind Joe Haden. McCourty is a bit in the mold of current Viking Antoine Winfield, as he's more than willing to throw his body around in the running game despite being a bit undersized. While he has his struggles in man coverage, he's shown himself to have a very good concept of where to line himself up in zones, which makes him a good fit for Minnesota's Cover 2 scheme.
My feeling is that certain playoff teams should fill needs, which McCourty would do. McCourty wouldn't have to wait behind Allen or Sapp. He's already better than both and getting better.
I like this pick. The Vikings play in the NFC North facing Jay Cutler and Aaron Rodgers each twice a year so good corner play is important. I'll defer to Daily Norseman on how he fits into the Vikings scheme but it sounds like this is a good match for both sides.
