Our friends at Arrowhead Pride, the SBN Chiefs blog, hailed this year's draft as "extremely entertaining" and projects several starters among their picks:
#5 (First round) Tennessee S Eric Berry; #36 (Second round) Mississippi RB/WR Dexter McCluster; #50 (Second round) Alabama CB Javier Arenas; #68 (Third round) Illinois G Jon Asamoah;
#93 (Third round) Iowa TE Tony Moeaki; #136 (Fifth round) Mississippi S Kendrick Lewis; and, #142 (Fifth round) Troy LB Cameron Sheffield.
By my estimation, the Chiefs picked up four new starters in this draft - Berry, McCluster, Arenas and Moeaki. Jon Asamoah should be a starter at guard soon, with Brian Waters entering his eleventh season.
The theme of this draft was leadership - six of the Chiefs' draftees were team captains at some point in their college career. Another theme was hybrids, or players that can play multiple positions. McCluster is a RB/WR hybrid; Arenas is an extremely accomplished kick returner in addition to being a CB; Tony Moeaki is both a passing and blocking tight end; and Cameron Sheffield is a DE/OLB.
