Mike Bacsik Becomes Latest Cautionary Tale: Twitter Plus Alcohol Equals Trouble

The name Mike Bacsik doesn't come up a lot in the national sports scene, with the exception of a few months back when it was discussed whether he'd intentionally grooved Barry Bonds' 756th home run. But Bacsik is sure to get another 15 seconds or so in front of the nation this morning as the most hated Mavs fan in San Antonio. How did he pull that off? With a series of not-so-politically correct tweets regarding Sunday night's Mavs-Spurs contest. (You can read them all here, with the obvious qualifier that they might be offensive to some.)

All of the tweets have since been deleted, but he's getting the most attention for this one today:

Congrats to all the dirty mexicans in San Antonio

If you viewed the link earlier in this post, you also see that the tweet coming before that one about Mexicans pointed out the obvious: Bacsik was pretty drunk. "About 12 deep and some shots. So f this league."

Look, Bacsik has every right to be drunk or act racist in his own private life after baseball, but what complicates matters is the fact he's also a member of the working media for Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket in Dallas. While he doesn't have a huge Twitter following, he has 1,661 followers and now his series of tweets has become a big story in Texas. One writer is calling for Bacsik's ouster and he probably won't be alone on that front today.

UPDATE: Bacsik apologized today via Twitter.

UPDATE 2: Bacsik was fired from his gig with the radio station on Tuesday.

He was a member of the working media. Now he’s just a member. Zing! Really though, **** him. Congrats to all the drunk rednecks in Dallas.

I’m from France and even now live fairly high North in the USA… but I was unaware that there was much difference between the dirty Mexican populations of rival Texas cities.

well, its just that san antonio and the spurs fans are majority hispanic whereas mavs fans are majority rich and white…which is the opposite of drunk redneck mr chiadam

When I go to Quebec, a lot of people there refer to the whole USA as "le Mexique du nord," which loosely translates to "North Mexico."

Don’t worry, folks… I slap them right in the face when they say that. I’m half-American, and I didn’t get that surrender monkey gene.

This is the type of garbage we get for sports news these days….scrounging around on ex-players twitter accounts trolling for dirt.  Sports writers are worse than tabloid writers.
