The Bears acquired safety Chris Harris via trade from the Panthers on Tuesday. With Harris in the fold, there was no room for safety Kevin Payne.
The Bears announced Payne has been traded to the Rams.
The compensation is an undisclosed pick in 2011.

Angelo does it again.
By all accounts, Chris Harris was about to be released by the Panthers as they wanted to move forward with two other safeties. A little homework would have uncovered that – instead we gave up a future pro bowler, a great young linebacker with massive upside, for a guy we should never have let go in the first place. How JA is still in a job is unfathomable.
