Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Anthony Morrow made a career-high 16-of-23 field goals en route to a season-best 35 points, as the Golden State Warriors held off the New York Knicks, 128-117.
Reggie Williams added 23 points and five rebounds for the Warriors, who have won eight in a row against New York at Golden State. Corey Maggette tallied 21 points, while Stephen Curry chipped in 15 points and 10 assists for the victors.
Warriors coach Don Nelson inched closer to becoming No. 1 on the all-time NBA coaching victory list. The veteran mentor now has 1,331 regular-season wins, which is two away from breaking the record held by Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens. Golden State has seven games left on its schedule.
David Lee posted his first career triple-double with 37 points, 20 rebounds, and 10 assists for the Knicks, who fell to 0-4 on a five-game road trip that ends Sunday against the Clippers.
Danilo Gallinari finished with 29 points, eight boards, and eight assists, while Chris Duhon and Bill Walker each added 14 points in defeat.
New York started the game on a 14-4 run, but the Warriors fought back and held a 34-32 edge after 12 minutes of action.
Golden State opened the second on a 23-5 run to extend its margin to 20. Morrow tallied 12 points during the stretch, including a jumper to make it 57-37 with 5:24 left until half. The score was 65-51 at the break.
The Knicks ripped off seven straight points in the early stages of the third to get within nine, 67-58, on a Walker trey.
After Williams responded with five consecutive points for the Warriors, New York put together a 14-2 burst to cut the deficit to two. Lee's jumper made it 74-72 with 6:24 to go.
Just moments later, Gallinari and Toney Douglas made back-to-back three- pointers to get within one, 81-80, with 4:12 left. However, Golden State responded with a 14-5 surge to create some breathing room again. Williams' reverse layup had the Warriors ahead 10, 95-85. The score was 97-89 heading to the fourth.
Gallinari's trey had New York within six, 114-108, with 5:24 to play in the fourth. But the Warriors fought back with a 12-2 run to essentially seal the victory. Williams' layup made it 126-110 with 2:50 to go.
The Warriors win the season series with the Knicks, 2-0...New York signed center Earl Barron to a 10-day contract on Friday...Golden State played without leading scorer Monta Ellis (flu) for a third straight game...Lee's 37 points tied his career high.
