2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Pick 43

The second round of the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft rolls along. We're having each SB Nation blogger make selections for their respective teams. Matty I, lead blogger at SB Nation's Miami Dolphins blog, The Phinsider, checks in to make the No. 43 overall selection in this year's mock. Take it away, sir!

With the No. 43 overall pick in the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft, the Miami Dolphins have selected Demaryius Thomas, WR, Georgia Tech.

Matty I says:Yes I know - this is a risky pick and is not exactly the kind of pick this regime in Miami would make. But it's risky for reasons other than character. While Dez Bryant has off-field concerns, Demaryius Thomas has concerns on the field because of the college system he played in. And I'm aware that Thomas did not run a full route tree at Georgia Tech. I also know about his injured foot. But his injured foot will heal and you can teach a kid a route tree if he's a willing learner - and by all accounts, Thomas is a hard worker.

Here's what you can't teach a kid: how to be 6'3, 220 pounds and possess enough speed to run away from every defensive back in the ACC. No receiver has as much upside as Thomas in this draft. And because he came out of a run-heavy offense, he's a willing blocker who is actually effective - which this front office will love. In my opinion, there is no reason why Thomas can't become a true #1 receiver and the best receiver to come out of this draft. At pick #43, this is really a no-brainer for a team like this that desperately needs a play-maker at receiver.

Mocking Dan reacts: Although I have Damian Williams rated much higher, Thomas is a better fit for Miami. The Dolphins desperately need a wide receiver, but current wide receiver Brian Hartline is very similar in playing style to Williams. Thomas may be a huge risk, but he could be a star with the right coaching.

Mocking the Draft's Top 5 remaining prospects: 1 - Jonathan Dwyer/RB/Georgia Tech, 2 - Damian Williams/WR/USC, 3 - Rob Gronkowski/TE/Arizona, 4 - Brandon Spikes/LB/Florida, 5 - Chad Jones, S, LSU
