Shanoff's WUC: Tiger Enters 'Post-Scandal' Era

Today's Calls: Tiger Woods vs. Fred Couples, Brad Stevens vs. Tom Crean, Colt McCoy vs. the Rams, Bulls vs. Raptors, Vernon Wells vs. Jose Reyes, Tina Charles vs. Sam Bradford, John Brantley vs. Tim Tebow and More. ↵

↵The Opening Pitch: We are officially in Tiger's "Post-Scandal" Era. ↵

↵

↵All the philandering? The parade of women? The nasty details? Now, a footnote. ↵

↵

↵As was argued back in November, Tiger's redemption was just a golf swing away. It took him four months to get there. ↵

↵

↵That he saved it for the biggest tournament of the year — the most anticipated golf event in the history of the sport — and delivered the best Masters first round of his career? ↵

↵

↵At this point, if you want to talk about the scandal, it feels stale. (The fans on site have certainly forgotten.) Now, we are all just waiting to see if the guy can win the freaking thing. Which he very well might. ↵

↵

↵In a year of epic championships — Saints over Colts, Duke over Butler — Tiger winning the Masters would fit right in. ↵

↵

↵More Masters: Fred Couples! If it wasn't for the fact that 98 percent of the national attention for the Masters is on Tiger, that Couples is the oldest post-first-round leader in Masters history would be awesome. ↵

↵

↵Tiger Ad: The strategy behind Tiger's ad feels like it was conceived in 1997, circa "Hello World." I'm not sure even the geniuses at Weiden and Kennedy could anticipate the re-mixes that would happen mocking Tiger. ↵

↵

↵CBB Coaching Carousel: Brad Stevens got a 12-year extension. Look, the guy can obviously make the Final Four from Butler and it seems like a wonderful place to make a living, but I cannot believe he goes the distance on this new deal. My bet: Indiana, eventually, after things inevitably sour with Tom Crean. ↵

↵

↵NFL Draft: Are the Rams better off taking Ndamukong Suh with the No. 1 pick and Colt McCoy at the top of the second round or Sam Bradford with the first pick and whoever is available at the top of the second? Either they are interested in that scenario or they are just playing games to try to get Bradford to sign before the draft. ↵

↵

↵Meanwhile: Eric Berry, overrated? Say it ain't so! ↵

↵

↵NBA Final Week: The Cavs' decision to tank is the Bulls' gain on the Raptors for the eighth playoff spot in the East. (Great point by Eric Freeman that, for the Bulls and Raps, it's all about momentum for summer free agency.) ↵

↵

↵Playoff jockeying in the West: Nuggets beat Kobe-less Lakers to edge past Jazz. Still going to go down to the final game for Denver, Utah, Dallas and Phoenix for that No. 2 seed. ↵

↵

↵MLB Talking Points: ↵

↵

↵— Small sample size: Twins are sizzling ↵

↵

↵— So the Nats won't go 0-162 ↵

↵

↵— Deals: Brewers lock up their ace ↵

↵

↵— Fantasy Stud: Vernon Wells (HR No. 4) ↵

↵

↵— Weekend Watch: Jose Reyes ↵

↵

↵CFB Spring Games: Florida launches the post-Tim Tebow Era with fans' first look at John Brantley as QB1 (and backup Trey Burton, part of a rumored new/old 2-QB system). ↵

↵

↵NBA Draft Entries: ↵

↵

↵— Willie Warren, Oklahoma: Should've left last year. ↵

↵

↵— Avery Bradley, Texas: Another thanks for zilch. ↵

↵

↵WNBA Draft: Tina Charles went No. 1 overall, a no-brainer. ↵

↵

↵Frozen Four: Not much drama — Wisconsin and B.C. roll into championship game. RIT is not the new Butler. ↵

↵

↵Business: Tim Tebow gets another big endorsement deal, to be EA's cover guy for NCAA Football 2011. ↵

↵

↵Nicknames: The Fighting Sioux are no more. North Dakota needs a new nickname. Any clever suggestions? ↵

↵

↵The Last Word: No, seriously. Tiger can't really win the Masters, can he? (And, yet, you just know he is going to.) ↵
