With the 2010 NCAA lacrosse championship field being announced Sunday night (UVA is the No. 1 seed), head coach Dom Starsia said he was happy to once again be able to focus his attention on the field in the wake of the tragedy:
“It’s hard to put into words what this week has been like, tragic on so many different levels,” he said. “I was glad to be able to at least consider the lacrosse piece of this again, both on the field dealing with the team and talking about lacrosse this evening.”
Starsia said he doesn’t know if a sense of normalcy will ever return to the lacrosse program at UVA.
The team plays its first game of the tournament on Saturday night. Starsia isn’t expected to join the team until Thursday; he is attending the funeral of his father this week, who passed away last Friday.
As for the women’s team, they too are gearing up for the lacrosse championship. Following the funeral for Yeardley Love in Maryland on Sunday, the team held a practice at Notre Dame prep, where Love attended high school. More than 40 UVA alumni and family were in attendance to support the team.
