Tampa Bay Lightning rookie star and Maurice Richard Trophy winner Steven Stamkos was injured at the IIHF World Championships in Germany on Wednesday afternoon.
The Canadian forward took a hit to the upper body from a Swiss player and left the game in the first period before eventually returning to the bench. He didn't see the ice after the incident, however.
According to a report from Canwest, Stamkos will be re-evaluated. His loss was critical in the game, which Switzerland wound up dominating 4-1. Already without Ryan Smyth, the Canadians were under-manned and unable to keep up with the Swiss attack.

Steven Stamkos Possibly Concussed
Canada's next opponent at the IIHF World Hockey Championship is unknown with the qualification round about to get underway. What's certain is that Steven Stamkos will sit out the match on Friday because of a possible concussion sustained during Wednesday's 4-1 loss to Switzerland.
Defenseman Timo Helbling's elbow caught the Tampa Bay Lightning star in the jaw as the two collided. Jordan Eberle, Edmonton's first round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft, has been added to the roster which gives the coaching staff 11 healthy forwards.
