France Football Finalizes Negotiations With Bordeaux, Laurent Blanc To Coach National Team

Despite Bordeaux’s irritation about how former coach Laurent Blanc has moved from les Girondins to the French national team job, negotiations between the club and the federation moved quickly, and the former French international is now set to take over the job with Les Blues following the World Cup.

Earlier this week it was reported that Blanc would leave the club, with whom he had one year remaining on his contract, and accept an offer with France Football. While acknowledging the resignation, Bordeaux claimed they would want compensation for their contracted coach.

According to reports today, the negotiations have concluded, with Blanc free to make the move to the national team:

A joint statement from Bordeaux and the FFF read: “The French Football Federation, its president, Jean-Pierre Escalettes and Bordeaux FC, its president and shareholder, have reached an agreement for the recruitment of Laurent Blanc as the coach of the France football team.”

Blanc’s first competitive match coaching the team is currently slated to be a September 3 fixture with Belarus, France’s first qualifier for Euro 2012.
