Frustrated Mark DeRosa Hits The DL With Elbow And Wrist Problems

The Giants signed outfielder/utility man Mark DeRosa to a two-year, $12m contract over the offseason. Things haven't gone quite as planned, though, as DeRosa's been one of the few Giants to really struggle in what's so far been a successful year. DeRosa's hit just .194 over 104 trips to the plate, and now the 35 year old - who hasn't played since May 8th - is headed for the disabled list.

Giants infielder/outfielder Mark DeRosa will go on the disabled list, a source close to the situation has told Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.

DeRosa has been bothered by tendinitis in his left elbow and soreness in his left wrist for more than a week.

The big problem for DeRosa is the wrist. He had surgery to repair a torn tendon sheath last October, but DeRosa recently called that operation a "failure", as he's struggled with sensation. A second surgery is a distinct possibility, although it's being treated as a last resort.

DeRosa's DL stint is retroactive to May 9th. Andres Torres has gotten the bulk of the playing time in his absence, and this is likely to continue. Read more at McCovey Chronicles.
