Driver Rating Season Update: Good News For Montoya, Bad News For Edwards

Despite being 19th in points, Juan Pablo Montoya is having a great season when it comes to on-track performance, according to NASCAR's driver rating.

Montoya is eighth in the driver rating, which is a sign that without some late-race bad luck and parts failures, Montoya would be much higher in the points.

The same can be said for Clint Bowyer, who is 15th in points but ninth in driver rating.

Unfortunately, there's bad news if you're a Carl Edwards fan. Edwards is 10th in points but only 17th in the driver rating, indicating he's higher in points than he should actually be.

Martin Truex Jr. is in a similar situation. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver is 12th in points but only 18th in driver rating.

No. 1 in the driver rating? Well, that's no surprise. See for yourself:

Does driver rating really mean anything?

Hmm. 14th. I guess that’s about right for a B- grade.
