Fantasy Baseball: Sunday's Roto Roundup

The Giants were shutout for the second game in a row on Sunday, and scored only one run all weekend. I am sure we will start....continue....to hear the chant that the Giants bring up AAA catcher Buster Posey. I can see the Giants calling him up on June 1st, and figuring out what to do with Bengie Molina and Aubrey Huff afterward. I am sure there are teams that have interest in Molina, not so much Hiuff.

Here are the rest of my thoughts after reviewing Sunday's boxscores:

The Red Sox did the unbelievable on Sunday as they beat Phillies starter Roy Halladay by scoring 7 runs in 5+ innings. The middle of the Red Sox lineup had Halladay's number, as batters 3-6 had two hits apiece and drove in 4 of their 8 runs. Kevin Youkilis hit his 9th HR of the season and scored 3 runs.

The Marlins hit 5 HRs and scored a season high 13 runs in beating the White Sox 13-0 on Sunday. Cody Ross went 3-4 with 2 HRs and 3 RBI. Gaby Sanchez, Jorge Cantu, Wes Helms and Ronny Paulino each had 3 hits in the romp. Ross is now hitting .309-.360-.467 with 4 HRs and 24 RBIs.

All Toronto right fielder Jose Bautista knows how to do is hit HRs. Bautista hit his 14th HR of the season and drove in 4 runs on Sunday as the Bliue Jays romped over the Diamondbacks 12-4. He now has 14 HRs and 38 RBIs for the season, but owns a low .242 BA, so you gotta take the good with the bad with Bautista. If I owned him, I would be looking to deal him, as I can't see him hitting like this in the second half.

Before the season started, Nationals infielder Christian Guzman lost his starting job to rookie Ian Desmond. Since then, all he has done is hit. Guzman had two hits on Sunday raising his BA to .345. Guzman doesn't hit for much power or steal alot of bases, but you can pencil him in for a .300+ BA.

Ray's outfielder Carl Crawford went 2-5 with a walk, 3 runs scored, an RBI and 3 SBs, raising his SB total to 14 on the season. Crawford, a free agent at the end of the season, is hitting .324-.381-.506 for the season with 35 runs scored. With the way the Rays are playing now, Crawford will more than likely end the season in Tampa, with the Rays earning two draft picks after offering him arbitration.

Astros starter Bud Norris threw up alot of crooked numbers on Sunday, including 3 HRs allowed and 10 strikeouts. Norris has some value in 5 x 5 leagues because of his K rate, but his ERA of 6.80 makes it tough to own him.

Cubs rookie SS Starlin Castro went 1-4 on Sunday and has now hit in 9 of his last 10 games. For the season, Castro is hitting .350-.409-.500 with a K/BB rate of 6/6.

Padres starter Mat Latos is on a serious roll since giving up 7 runs in an early May start in Florida. Latos won his 4th game of the season and held the Mariners to one run on 4 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings on Sunday, lowering his ERA to 3.09. Latos has 42/12 K/BB rate with a 0.99 WHIP.

The Rockies managed just 2 runs off of Brian Bannister on Friday night, but went out and scored 8 runs off of 2009 Cy Young award winner Zack Greinke on Sunday. Makes sense right?

Wow. I am watching the Mets-Yankees game and Mets third baseman David Wright came up with one out and the bases loaded, and struck out on a curveball. Sabathia made him look really bad, as Wright swung after the ball was in the catchers mitt. He now has 59 strikeouts and is on pace to strikeout over 200 times this season.

Royals first baseman Billy Butler went 4-5 with an RBI in the Royals loss to the Rockies on Sunday. Butler is hitting .341-.387-.483 for the season with 4 HRs and 26 RBIs. I thought he could go 30-100 this year, so he will have to really turn up the power for that to happen.
