A person familiar with the decision tells the Associated Press that there weren't any suspensions. The amount of the fines imposed Friday was not known.
Likewise, Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen and pitcher Mark Buehrle, have been fined but not suspended. There's bound to be a reaction from Sox fans, so for more, head on over to SB Nation's own South Side Sox.
There's still no word yet on whether or not Ozzie Guillen and Mark Buehrle will get fined for their actions on Wednesday. However, one guy who will be disciplined? Umpire Joe West.
Between West dredging up a subject [Sox/Yankees] MLB was peeved he addressed in public in the first place, and the fallout from his ejections of Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen and pitcher Mark Buehrle on Wednesday, his behavior reached a tipping point for baseball officials. MLB reprimanded West during a phone conversation Thursday and will continue to consult with the World Umpires Assocation – of which West is president – to determine the severity of his punishment.
I can't think of (m)any people who are going to be too broken up about all this.
Wednesday afternoon was an unusual one in Cleveland, as first base umpire Joe West called two balks in White Sox starter Mark Buehrle. After the first balk, Ozzie Guillen argued and got ejected. After the second balk, Buehrle argued and got ejected. The White Sox went on to defeat the Indians anyway, but they had to do it without their manager and with a lot of help from the bullpen.
Oz on Joe West - "He's a f---ing asshole." ... "Sometimes he thinks f---ing people pay to watch him f---ing umpire.'' Oz on Joe West. ... "No matter what you say, what you do, how long you talk here, Major League Baseball doesn’t do s--- for anything.'' Oz
Ozzie, of course, will face disciplinary action for his remarks, but something tells me Ozzie doesn't care. He's been fined before, and he's almost certain to get fined again in the future.
