UFC 114 Results: Rashad Evans Survives Scary Third Round, Defeats 'Rampage' By Decision

In the opening round of the UFC 114 main event Rashad Evans stunned Quinton "Rampage" Jackson with a quick right hand.  Later in the round he was able to use his speed to get a quick takedown to put Rampage on his back.  It was a very early, very clear sign that Evans was not going to get blown away early.  The second round was more of the same with Evans' speed presenting problems for Rampage although toward the end of the round Jackson did start to find the spacing to throw a few punches that mostly missed their mark.

In the third round Jackson managed to land a hard shot that put Evans on his back.  Rampage followed him to the mat and started landing hard follow up shots that had referee Herb Dean on the edge of stopping the fight.  Evans was able to gain some control back before finding a way to scoot his hips out and get back to standing.  Still wobbly it looked as though Jackson could pour on pressure and possibly still finish the fight, but fatigue appeared to stop him.  Once Rashad recovered he was able to get a takedown and start landing effective punches of his own before Jackson stood up and Evans took him right back down.  It was a major turnaround where Evans went from almost finished to taking over the second half of the round with takedowns and ground and pound.

A somewhat disappointed live audience booed the fight at several times as Evans spent much of the fight pushing Jackson into the fence and controlling him without doing damage but it was a safe strategy that led to a clear decision win.

Official scorecards were 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 all for Rashad Evans who will now meet UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua for the title.

UFC 114 Results: Michael Bisping Cruises To Decision Win Over Dan Miller

Michael Bisping rebounded from his recent decision loss to Wanderlei Silva by dominating the tough Dan Miller for three rounds.  Miller was willing to stand and trade punches with Bisping.  On the feet the Brit was able to use solid boxing to land hard right hands to the face of Miller.

It wasn't entirely one-sided as Miller did find space to land right hands of his own at times including one that appeared to stun Bisping a little.  Still, the vast majority of the fight was spent with Bisping controlling the spacing and tempo of the fight and winning the punching exchanges.

In the end Bisping took an easy 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 decision.

UFC 114 Results: Mike Russow Shocks With Third Round KO Of Todd Duffee

Todd Duffee came into UFC 114 as one of the top heavyweight prospects in the UFC.  He was coming off the record quickest knockout in UFC history and facing a man in Mike Russow who has never really impressed anyone.  For two and a half rounds things went perfectly according to plan as Duffee landed power shot after power shot with the only positive for Russow being that he showed the ability to absorb a lot of punishment.

However in the last half of the final round Russow landed what was his only solid punch of the fight and Duffee went out cold.  It was a shocking moment and a huge derailment of the Todd Duffee hype train.  Russow didn't look good for anything except the very end of the fight and Duffee got KO'ed in a fight he was dominating.  That's not exactly good for anyone.

Russow improves to 2-0 in the UFC though and certainly won't be going anywhere now.

UFC 114 Results - Jason Brilz Gains Respect, Loses Decision To Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

Coming in as a last minute replacement (after an injury forced Forrest Griffin off the card) and a +475 underdog it was easy to overlook Jason Brilz against light heavyweight star Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.  Brilz simply did not care about the underdog label as he gave it everything he had for three rounds as he took Nogueira down repeatedly, rocked him badly standing and came close to finishing with a guillotine choke in the second round.  Nogueira wasn't without his moments though, as he clearly won the third round with nice sweeps from the bottom and some damage standing up.

The first round was the closest of the fight and was clearly the round that would decide the fight.  Nogueira won a few standing exchanges while Brilz got a few takedowns.  SB Nation scored the bout 29-28 Brilz, having given him the first and second rounds.  It only matters what the judges thought though and Nogueira won the split decision taking two judges scorecards 29-28 while Brilz won the other with the same score.

Following the announcement the sold-out crowd booed and continued to display their disapproval during the post-fight interview with Nogueira.

It will be a loss on his resume, but this was the fight where Jason Brilz made it known to the world that he can compete with the top guys in the world.

UFC 114 Results: John Hathaway Stuns Diego Sanchez

John Hathaway came into the evening a fairly large underdog to Diego Sanchez but was considered by many to be a major prospect.  Diego Sanchez had only lost three times in over twenty-five fights and all three of those losses were to top five opponents.

It didn't take too long for Sanchez to find out that he was in with a legitimate threat though.  As Sanchez shot in for a takedown in the first round he was timed perfectly by Hathaway who connected with a big knee.  A stunned Sanchez fell to his back and began to eat a flurry of punches from the British welterweigh.  While Sanchez was able to survive to the end of the round he was never able to get back on track against his larger foe.

Hathaway used good takedown defense and a long, hard right hand that landed repeatedly to take a clear decision.  The official scorecards read 30-27, 30-27 and 30-26 all for John Hathaway.  With the win there is no doubt that Hathaway has arrived on the scene as a top of the division talent.

UFC 114 Results: Dong Hyun Kim Wins One-Sided Decision Over Amir Sadollah

As a former Ultimate Fighter winner Amir Sadollah came into UFC 114 with a bigger name than his opponent Dong Hyun Kim.  It was Kim with the better experience and as such he was considered the favorite by most fans "in the know."

For three rounds Kim was able to avoid the dangerous Muay Thai striking of Sadollah and get inside to use his effective judo to put the fight on the ground.  From there he constantly worked position and ground and pound to grind Sadollah down.  It was your typical "lather, rinse, repeat" type fight as every time they were on the feet it was just Kim getting inside, taking a single leg and going right back on top.

After three rounds all three judges saw it as a 30-27 win for Dong Hyun "Stun Gun" Kim.

UFC 114 Results: Efrain Escudero Outworks Dan Lauzon

In the opening bout of the Spike TV portion of the card former Ultimate Fighter winner Efrain Escudero was about to outwork a game Dan Lauzon to take a unanimous decision.  Neither man was able to do much by way of damage in the first round but Escudero was clearly dictating pace and position to take the round.  In the second Escudero opened up with a nice flurry early in the round to make a clear statement.  As Lauzon faded, Escudero continued to pour on pressure.

In the third round it was more of the same before Escudero landed a kick to the cup of Lauzon.  The foul resulted in a point deduction for Efrain, but it would not matter.  All three judges scored the bout 29-27 for Escudero who rebounded from his first career loss at UFC Fight Night 20 to Evan Dunham.
