Maybe this is why Darren Sharper was on the free agent market for nearly two months:
Now that he has signed a 1-year deal with Saints, truth can be told on Darren Sharper: he had microfracture knee surgery this off-season.
The Saints didn't re-sign Sharper initially because he reportedly had arthroscopic surgery -- not microfracture surgery -- and they wanted to give it some time to heal.
The surgery reportedly took place in early March days before the start of free agency.
At age 34, it's a safe assumption the surgery could affect his mobility in 2010.
