Apparently, Vancouver Canucks forward Kyle Wellwood took advantage of playing in Chicago over the last few days, inviting a bunch of his hockey friends to the 'Deep Dish Crawl 2010.' All the stars were there, including former Blues forward Keith Tkachuk, Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur and former Columbus coach Ken Hitchcock.
Hockey Independent writer Al Rankin found all of this on Facebook, where Wellwood posted it for all the world to see. Click the image below to enlarge.
Rankin goes on to say the following:
As of press time the Canucks had not disclosed what punishment the two players would face but sources tell us that both will be confined to their hotel rooms and have their minibar privileges suspended.
It's also worth noting that in his mini-bio directly under this blog post, it says "You shouldn't trust what he says." At the top of the page along the navigation bar, there's a tab called "Satire."
If you didn't think this was fake off the bat, well, you need to look in the mirror and come to some cold realizations. But if you didn't realize this was satire after looking around the page and finding the clues, you'd likely be NBC Chicago. (Screen caps in case they realize the mistake, which has already been up for 20 hours or so: one, two)
The Vancouver Canucks have fined two of their players for planning a day-long deep dish pizza crawl through Chicago, says the Hockey Independent.
The Canucks' press office could not immediately confirm the report, but the Independent published a screen cap of the invite.
Commence laughter.... now.
