Over the next week, more details will emerge about Yeardley Love's death. Accusations will be made, defenses will be offered, school officials will make plan, law enforcement will work and pundits will discuss. For the players themselves, we might expect them to put their focus back into lacrosse and the impending NCAA Tournaments.
We know that both teams are good but for the uninitiated, it's worth noting that the University of Virginia mens' lacrosse team is really good. As in, the best team in the nation by a longshot. They've beaten every other team in the top five, 10 of their 14 wins are over teams in the Top 20 and they are a lock for the No. 1 seed.
For some perspective, imagine if this had happened at Alabama a few weeks before the BCS Title game or at Duke a few days before the NCAA Tournament started.
The Cavs are the clear favorite to win the NCAA Title and didn't need any extra motivation. But will they be motivated or distracted? They certainly mourn the loss of Love but the situation surrounding Huguely must be beyond confusing. Surely he has friends on the team and some of them must still support him as he fights charges of murder. He is, after all, innocent until proven guilty (damning evidence aside).
All eyes will be on Virginia this Sunday when the NCAA Tournament draw is announced, just not because of anything they did during the season.
