Lawrence Taylor Designated Lowest-Grade Sex Offender

Former New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor has been given the lowest-grade sex offender status on Tuesday following his March 22 sexual misconduct sentencing. Judge William Kelly had delayed this portion of Taylor's sentencing, but three weeks later Taylor has been designated as a Level 1 sex offender. As a result, he will not have his photo published in an online registry for such offenders.

Judge Kelly decided on Level 1 status because he believed that Taylor would not find himself in a similar situation. Had Kelly agreed with the prosecution and gone with a Level 2 status, that would have required Taylor's picture to be added to the registry. However, given Taylor's public profile and the amount of attention already given to this trial, Kelly believed that there was little difference between the two levels and went with the lower one.

However, Level 1 status still means that he will need to register as a sex offender, in addition to six years probation.

Lawrence Taylor Sentenced To Six Years Probation, Sex Offender Status

Former New York Giants LB Lawrence Taylor has been sentenced to six years probation, according to the Associated Press. In January, Taylor plead guilty to sexual misconduct and having sex with an underage prostitute. Taylor will also be a registered sex offender.

Taylor will also have to abide by the conditions of a sex offender. But the judge postponed until April 12 the hearing to determine what level of sex offender will be assigned to him.

This nearly wraps up an incident that began last May when it was reported Taylor was found having sex with an underaged prostitute. Taylor said he didn't know she was underaged. In January, he plead guilty to two charges -- both misdemeanors.

Lawrence Taylor Wants Rape Case Dismissed

Last May former Giants great Lawrence Taylor was arrested on sexual assault charges and in a June court appearance pleaded not guilty to all the charges. He appeared in court on Tuesday to plead with a judge to dismiss the case.

Taylor's defense is that the arrest violated his rights.

Taylor's attorney recently filed a motion claiming that the arrest violated his client's rights, claiming that he was asleep when police detained him without a warrant. Law enforcement officials have not commented.

Taylor's legal team has argued from the start that he's innocent of the charges.

"My client did not have sex with anybody," Taylor's lawyer, Arthur Aidala had said following his arrest. "Lawrence Taylor did not rape anybody."

His next appearance comes on Dec. 23.

No Plea Deal Reached In Lawrence Taylor Case

Former New York Giants great Lawrence Taylor has already pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, criminal sexual act and sexual abuse as well as endangering the welfare of a child and patronizing a prostitute.

He appeared in Rockland County Courthouse on Thursday for what some thought was to strike a plea deal. Not the case, his lawyer says.

Defense attorney Arthur Aidala said this afternoon outside the Rockland County Courthouse that Taylor would not accept an agreement that brings 10 years probation, which would be mandatory if he pleaded guilty to the felony charges in the case.

Taylor didn't have a comment for reporters on the way out and his next court date is Dec. 7. It appears he's headed for trial. The Rockland DA said Wednesday that they have discussed a six-month jail sentence and 10 years probation in a plea deal.

Lawrence Taylor Pleads Not Guilty To Charges

Lawrence Taylor has entered a plea of not guilty on charges files against him. Several weeks ago, Taylor was indicted by a New York grand jury on charges of rape, criminal sexual act and sexual abuse as well as endangering the welfare of a child and patronizing a prostitute.

Although Taylor has not publicly addressed the charges, his attorney, Arthur Aidala, said that he would fight them after Taylor was indicted by a grand jury on June 23. Aidala said the indictment was little more than a formality and that Taylor would plead innocent.

"I am saying that he did not have sexual intercourse, as it's defined in the penal law, with this person," his lawyer said.

ESPN legal analyst Roger Cossack took a closer look at the case several weeks ago.

They're not going to have a problem getting a guilty verdict in showing that he had intercourse with a woman under the age of 16. The law doesn't require knowledge by him that he knew seh was under 16 so I think he's in a tough spot.

The real question is: Is this what the law was intended to do? I don't think that's what this law was intended for this type of situation. I think it was intended to prevent older men from preying on younger girls and I don't think there's any question Lawrence Taylor did not know how young that girl was.

Taylor's attorney has said this won't be a "he-said, she-said defense" and that others would be able to corroborate Taylor's version of the events.

Taylor left the hearing on Tuesday morning and when asked by ESPN if he looks forward to his day in court said, "Hopefully it don't go that far."

Lawrence Taylor Indicted On Charges Of Rape, Criminal Sexual Act And Sexual Abuse

The last report we heard regarding NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor indicated that his legal defense would be that he masturbated with an under-aged prostitute in the room but did not have sexual intercourse with her.

ESPN is now reporting Taylor has been indicted by a New York grand jury on charges of rape, criminal sexual act and sexual abuse as well as endangering the welfare of a child and patronizing a prostitute.

He will now have to enter a plea. His defense team wants him to plead guilty to the misdeameanor -- having sex with a prostitute -- but that hasn't happened yet.

ESPN's Roger Cossack weighed in on the challenges facing Taylor:

They're not going to have a problem getting a guilty verdict in showing that he had intercourse with a woman under the age of 16. The law doesn't require knowledge by him that he knew seh was under 16 so I think he's in a tough spot.

The real question is: Is this what the law was intended to do? I don't think that's what this law was intended for this type of situation. I think it was intended to prevent older men from preying on younger girls and I don't think there's any question Lawrence Taylor did not know how young that girl was.

If the prosecutor decides to move forward -- and not offer a plea deal to Taylor -- jail time is a very real possibility, according to Cossack.

Report: Lawrence Taylor Will Claim Masturbation, Not Intercourse With Alleged Victim

According to TMZ.com, Lawrence Taylor's legal defense will include claiming he did not have sexual intercourse with the under-aged victim. Instead, TMZ reports, he will claim he masturbated with her present in the room.

As one source put it, Lawrence engaged in a "masturbatory act" and that was it.

According to New York law, "A person is guilty of rape in the third degree when ... he or she engages in sexual intercourse with another person less than seventeen years old."

This defense is important because oral sex would be included under the "sexual intercourse" label. The story up until now was that the two had engaged in some sort sexual act -- either intercourse or oral sex.

Another issue here would be why the condom that police reportedly found was in the room. TMZ reports LT's defense to that will be that it's not his and he didn't use it -- that's something a DNA test could prove.

LT's lawyer has said from the start that his client did not have sexual intercourse with the alleged victim.

Accuser Told Lawrence Taylor She Was 19

The woman who was allegedly raped (non-forcibly) by Lawrence Taylor reportedly told him she was 19. The woman is actually 16, thus the statutory rape charges against LT.

The police are now investigating the pimp that setup up the meeting between LT and the 16-year old girl.

According to federal documents (via TMZ), the pimp told the girl to meet LT, tell him she was 19 and charge $300 for sex with him. She refused, according to the documents, at which point the pimp beat her up. This would explain the black eye police said she had.

The girl allegedly met with LT -- telling him she was 19 -- and exchanged sex for money. The girl, who was reportedly a runaway since March, then text messaged a relative for help.

When police finally caught up with the pimp, they found $300 on him.

What she told LT doesn't necessarily matter. The fact is that she is 16 and if the two indeed had sex, LT would still be charged.

Police Hold Press Conference Announcing Charges Against Lawrence Taylor

It's official. Lawrence Taylor has been charged with third-degree rape. That's a felony punishable by up to four years in prison.

Police announced the news at a press conference on Thursday afternoon. They also said he is being charged with third-degree patronizing of a prostitute, which is a misdemeanor.  An earlier report alleged Taylor paid $300 to have sex with the 16-year old girl.

The police also confirmed an earlier report that no drugs were found in the hotel room. Taylor previously failed multiple drug tests in the NFL and has been arrested on drug charges.

The 16-year old girl was a runaway (reported missing two months ago) and reportedly being controlled by a pimp. Police aren't blaming the "nasty" black eye on Taylor stating they believe it was already there.

At his official arraignment, the prosecution originally wanted a $100,000 bond citing his lengthy criminal history. LT's Lawyer called that "ludicrous" and the judge settled on $75,000, according to TMZ.

Lawyer: Lawrence Taylor 'Adamant He's Innocent'

Lawrence Taylor's wife is proclaiming her husband's innocence calling allegations that he raped a 16-year old girl a "setup." Now his lawyer has spoken publicly about the situation.

TMZ spoke with LT's lawyer, Kenneth Gribetz, who tells us Taylor is adamant that he's not guilty.

Gribetz also tells us LT -- who is still behind bars in the Town of Ramapo -- is "extremely upset about the situation."

Meanwhile, TMZ has a few more details on the incident that ended in a New York hotel room.

LT was asleep when police entered the hotel room. Upon arriving they found a condom and no drugs. The cops also confirm the accuser was under the control of a pimp and he was later arrested. The accuser also had a "nasty" black eye.

The accuser is also telling police that LT paid $300 for sex, TMZ reports.

A news conference from police is expected this afternoon.

Lawrence Taylor's Wife: My Husband Has Been 'Setup'

The wife of former NFL star Lawrence Taylor -- Lynette Taylor -- is telling TMZ that she believes allegations that he raped a 15-year old girl are "all bulls--t."

As for why she suspects a setup, Lynette claims that the timing of the arrest is suspicious because it came just days after LT was featured on an A&E documentary called "Fame and Recovery" which she believes "made him out to be a monster."

She describes the events as one big "setup", according to TMZ.
