Will Ferrell Brings His Shtick To Minor League Baseball

Will Ferrell began and ended his career in minor league baseball last night with one pitch at a Round Rock Express game. Appearing as mustachioed Venezuelan ex-con pitcher Billy Ray "Rojo" Johnson, the comedian took a swig of a beer on the mound and showed off his gold chains before he brushed back a hitter with his only pitch. From there, a fracas ensued. A tossed glove turned to Ferrell's beer being used as a weapon. The opposing player gave chase, which culminated in a faithful homage to the famous headlock Nolan Ryan once administered on Robin Ventura. Which is fitting, since Ferrell's version of George W. Bush had a bit of an obsession with The Ryan Express.

The Express, the Houston Astros Class AAA affiliate, can tout a surprisingly long list of celebrities who have attended their games.

Ferrell joins a long list of celebrities that have attended Express games, including Matthew McConaughey, Lance Armstrong, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Bill Engvall and Kurt Russell.
Ferrell was in town promoting his charity golf tournament that benefits College for Cancer. Though he's done several baseball-related comedy bits in the past, including his role on HBO's Eastbound and Down, as well as his frequent SNL sketches as Harry Caray, they hadn't involved him as a player. Quite the versatile performer, that guy.
