World Cup 2010: Slovakia 0, New Zealand 0 - Slovakia Deploys Surprise Formation

Stay connected with SB Nation

Seemingly to counter New Zealand’s 3-4-3, Vladimir Weiss has started a surprised 4-3-3 for Slovakia.

The Slovaks were a predominantly 4-4-2 team in qualifying, with the last time they used a 4-3-3 occurring when star midfield Marek Hamsik had been suspended. Today, Weiss has started Robert Vittek, Stanislav Sestak and Erik Jendrisek as advanced attackers, electing to move Miroslav Stoch to the bench while Hamsik played wider left.
