Strikeforce: Los Angeles Results - Renato 'Babalu' Sobral Outlasts Robbie Lawler

In the Strikeforce: Los Angeles main event Renato "Babalu" Sobral was able to outwork Robbie Lawler over three rounds to take a unanimous decision win.

Coming into the fight if one was told that the bout would be contested almost entirely standing it would have to be Lawler that would be favored to win the bout.  However, Sobral found ways to use his bigger size to land kicks and knees to the body and legs throughout the fight while also occasionally mixing in punches to Lawler's face.  The few times that the fight went to the ground it was via a Sobral takedown.

There were moments in the fight where Lawler pushed forward and let his hands go.  During those periods he was able to land punches and force "Babalu" to go backward.  It was clear that he would have to be able to do it with consistency to take the win, but it just didn't look like he had the gas to get it done.

In the end all three judges scored the bout 29-28 for Renato Sobral.

The winner of the fight was set to get a title shot.  However, Babalu said that he will not fight current light heavyweight champion "King" Mo Lawal due to their friendship and requested a bout with Dan Henderson instead.  It's odd to think that Strikeforce even put the title stipulation out there knowing Mo and Sobral's history so we will have to see what the promotion decides to do with the rather murky situation.

Strikeforce: Los Angeles Results - Evangelista 'Cyborg' Santos Knocks Out Marius Zaromskis

Marius Zaromskis came into the his bout with Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos as a fairly heavy favorite.  Santos is removed from his best days and even in those best days he was a fun brawler at best   However, Cyborg's power striking and aggression cracked the defense of Zaromskis as he landed several big shots in an entertaining and action packed round.  Zaromskis attempted to fire a flying knee but Santos countered with a series of punches that dropped, and finished, Marius.

Santos is the husband of the world's best female fighter in Cris "Cyborg" Santos and now having his first win in Strikeforce, and first win at welterweight, he will attempt to make a run at a title of his own.

Strikeforce: Los Angeles Results - Tim Kennedy Dominates Trevor Prangley

Trevor Prangley had no answers for Tim Kennedy once Kennedy was able to get the fight to the floor in their Strikeforce: Los Angeles bout.  Early in the fight the South African Prangley was able to defend against the takedowns of Kennedy and even mix in his own takedowns.  However, Kennedy was able to pop up directly after each takedown attempt and finally secured his own double-leg takedown into half guard.  On the ground, Kennedy passed to mount and then took Prangley's back before sinking in the choke for the submission win.

With the win Kennedy steps closer to a middleweight title shot.  A proper next step for him is the loser of the main event bout between "Babalu" Sobral and Robbie Lawler or the winner of the upcoming rematch between Cung Le and Scott Smith.

Strikeforce: Los Angeles Results - K.J. Noons Busts up Conor Heun

The opening bout of Strikeforce: Los Angeles featured K.J. Noons taking on Conor Heun in a 160 pound bout.

Early in the first round Noons was dominating the stand-up using his very solid technical boxing.  However, Heun would manage to get a takedown and take the former Elite XC champion's back and even mount him while doing damage.  It appeared that Heun had won the round but with five seconds left in the round Noons dropped him with a hook.

The second and third round were almost identical with Noons landing jabs and hooks over and over while Heun threw wild arm punches and occasionally landed.  It was clear that Noons had taken over the fight and Heun's bloodied face was proof of the damage Noons was doing.

In the end SB Nation scored the bout 30-27 for Noons.  Shockingly one of the judges managed to see all three rounds for Heun giving him a 30-27 nod.  The other two judges turned in 29-28 scorecards for Noons, giving the obvious winner a split decision victory in his first Strikeforce bout.
