Your Ears Are Safe: No Vuvuzelas Will Be Allowed at the Ohio State-Penn State Game

The vuvuzela invasion is in full swing. First we had the guy kicked out of Yankee Stadium with one and then we had the Marlins actually handing them out over the weekend. The latest domestic vuvuzela news is a movement that is dead on arrival in the Big Ten. ↵

↵A Facebook event was created -- and after all, we know nothing is official until there's a Facebook group or event -- urging students to bring vuvuzelas to the Penn State game at Ohio Stadium on Nov. 13. That's not going to fly, according to Scott Chipman of the Big Ten Conference (via EDSBS): ↵

↵
↵⇥The Big Ten has specific policies that do not allow irritants or noisemakers, so vuvuzelas would not be allowed. Below is the specific language from our football game management manual. ↵⇥

↵⇥A. Nonpermissible Items - The arena management is responsible for enforcing the Big Ten policies in this regard. The following items may not be brought into the arena by patrons: Alcoholic beverages, bottles, cans, cups or containers, irritants (e.g., noisemakers) or strobe lights. In addition, the facility may have additional restrictions on items that can be brought into the arena. ↵⇥

↵
↵

↵Expect these stories to continue as people are exposed to the vuvuzela for the first time and decide they have an opposing fan base they really hate. ↵
