Media Eyes Fredi Gonzalez As Bobby Cox Replacement For 2011 Braves

Fredi Gonzalez only just got fired this morning, but already several prominent media types have tabbed him as a favorite to replace Bobby Cox in Atlanta after the long-time manager retires following the year. Of note:

To reiterate my oft-expressed view, if Fredi Gonzalez is available, he immediately moves to top of the list of potential Cox replacements.

Fredi Gonzalez now has the path cleared to become the #Braves next manager after being fired by the #Marlins.

Gonzalez used to serve as the Braves' third base coach, his kids go to school in Atlanta, and he is a friend of Cox. MLB.com's Mark Bowman wonders if Atlanta won't make a move immediately just to get Gonzalez in through the door:

With Gonzalez currently available, there's reason to wonder if the Braves will attempt to immediately add him to their organization as an advisor or possibly even make room for him to join their current coaching staff.

The story, it seems, is no longer about Florida. It's about Atlanta, and who takes over next.
