The Spectrum In Philadelphia Is Now Standing Room Only

As they prepare to knock down an old hockey arena in Pittsburgh to make way for a brand new, state-of-the-art facility, on the other side of the state, they're preparing to do the same thing. In Philadelphia, however, they've had their brand new building for 14 years already.

Instead, the old Spectrum, which opened in 1967, will be knocked down at some undisclosed point in the near future to make room for a brand new entertainment complex called Philly Live!

The complex will feature shopping, nightlife, restaurants and a hotel in the heart of the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. It'll be built over the current site of the Spectrum and the parking lot that sits between that building and the Wachovia Center, the current home of the Flyers and Sixers.

That demolition has begun recently, and today, we got a small glimpse inside the old building. The seats are gone. All that remains is the sticky, refreshment covered floor.
