The happy-go-lucky Detroit Lions added another bauble to their charm bracelet of woe over the weekend, this one in the shape of a sippy cup. Team president Tom Lewand was arrested for suspected drunk driving Friday night, an incident confirmed by team officials:
"Tom made a very serious mistake and he appropriately owned up to that mistake," owner William Clay Ford Sr. said in a statement.
Safe to assume whatever "owning up" took place came well after Lewand lied to police upon being stopped:
When stopped by officers, Lewand told them he had not drank in a year and a half. He went on to say he was the designated driver and he had pulled into the Limberlost to pick a friend up and was headed to the “KOLO” dinner.
Still think the guy's a steadier hand on the tiller than Matt Millen? (And who could blame you for that?) SBN Detroit is continuing the discussion, with added details, including what Lewand might be expecting in the form of disciplinary action from Roger Goodell, right over here.
