Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that the Mavericks are very serious about pursuing a sign-and-trade with the Atlanta Hawks for Joe Johnson. The productive wing player will be meeting with the Knicks on July 1st but Dallas doesn’t think the Knicks will have the ability to lure the 29-year-old.
The Mavericks are unlikely to engage the Cleveland Cavaliers into a sign-and-trade for LeBron James, but Johnson has emerged as a realistic target for the Mavericks. Johnson, is more likely to embrace a sign-and-trade to the contending Mavs than sign a free-agent contract with New York or Chicago, sources said.
“New York is far from his first option,” one source with knowledge of Johnson’s thinking said.
SBNation Dallas will have any updates and reactions.
