Usually when there is news during the offseason of college basketball it is not good news, and that is exactly what is going on in this case. UNLV's star guard Tre'Von Willis has been arrested with multiple charges of felony domestic battery by strangulation, felony grand larceny, and misdemeanor coercion for an incident involving his 28 year old girlfriend. She called the police after 3 a.m. Tuesday morning saying that her boyfriend had attacked her, and after 10 a.m. Willis was then detained by the police.
UNLV Athletics Director Jim Livengood has released a statement:
"We have been made aware that a men's basketball student-athlete has been arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and is believed to be in custody. At this point in time we have no additional information, and it would be premature and inappropriate to comment further until this matter has been resolved through the judicial process. In addition, Coach Lon Kruger, who is presently out of town, has been made aware of the situation."
Willis is being held at the Henderson Detention Center on $18,637 bail, and has a court date scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 1.
