There was a report in Radio-Canada earlier today in which reporter J-F Chaumont said that Dan Ellis asked for a two-year, $4 million contract in his negotiations with the Montreal Canadiens. According to ESPN's Pierre Lebrun, however, that story is less than true.
Just got off the phone with Dan Ellis. Says it was misunderstanding. Reporter asked him about that figure and he said it's something he ... .... would consider. He never put out that figure. He's laughing it off as his first experience with Montreal media!around 4 PM ET, Jun 30 via web

Chaumont supported his reporting via Twitter -- in slightly broken English -- saying that Ellis did in fact say such things as responses to his questions.
At this point, it doesn't appear that Ellis will come to terms with Montreal before noon on Thursday.
